Dr. Elaina Dean, DNP, CNM, is an advanced practice nurse and educator with expertise in nurse midwifery and obstetric nursing. Her areas of expertise include improving maternal and newborn outcomes, optimizing gynecologic health, and integrating trauma-informed approaches into reproductive care. Her scholarly interests center on strengthening perinatal mental health support through universal trauma-informed care strategies as well as developing obstetric practice to reduce maternal-infant health disparities. She brings a comprehensive perspective to the intersection of clinical practice, education, and quality improvement. Her work aims to improve outcomes for individuals and families across the span of reproductive health care specifically through providing and promoting compassionate, person-centered care.
Teaching
Dr. Elaina Dean, DNP, CNM, is committed to preparing both undergraduate and advanced practicing nurses to provide evidence-based, equitable, and compassionate care. Her instructional efforts focus primarily on undergraduate nursing education with a specialized focus on obstetric nursing. She has extensive experience mentoring nursing and midwifery students, new graduate nurses, and practicing clinicians through clinical instruction, preceptorship, and individualized mentorship. Her teaching promotes person-centered learning through experiential learning and hands-on skill development to connect foundational knowledge with complex clinical situations. She prioritizes creating an inclusive and safe learning environment where students feel empowered to ask questions, engage in critical thinking, and develop confidence in their clinical judgment. Her educational approach reflects a commitment to developing clinically excellent nurses and future leaders in healthcare.
